Family Violence Service for Young People, drummond street services

Target group

The program offers a specialist response for young people (up to age 25) and their families when there have been experiences of harm and family violence within the home, including where young people have enacted harm.

Program aims

  • Children, young people and families impacted by family violence are safe and protected from violence
  • Children, young people and families impacted by family violence achieve better wellbeing outcomes

There is a reduction in the harm enacted by children or young people within their family

Format

Individual and family therapeutic and support work for clients.

Program components

  • Comprehensive risk and needs assessment, aiming for all voices to be heard and age-appropriate interventions
  • Processes and tools for young people and other family members to support exploration of different choices within relationship dynamics, to work towards healing, and foster supportive and positive relationships 
  • Individual support by a specialist family violence parenting practitioner to explore healthy relationships, attachment, child development and parenting skills  
  • Referrals to internal programs and external services, aiming for holistic and integrated service response 

Continual collaboration and a coordinated whole of family response  

Program duration

The duration and intensity of service delivery is matched to the needs of the family through ongoing assessment and case reviews.

Evaluation

The program is currently being evaluated by drummond street’s
Centre for Family Research and Evaluation (CFRE).

Eligibility 

Families in the north-west region of Melbourne and in Geelong where there have been experiences of harm and family violence within the home, including where young people have enacted harm.

Referrals from other practitioners, organisations and schools.
