Service is offered to support both young people and caregivers.
Individual case management
All families must be case managed by an Integrated Family Services provider in the northern region of Melbourne. This work should include an action plan with goals that should be followed through by young person and parents.
Group work
Prior to group work beginning, families begin work to achieve initial safety planning, reflection on family values, goals and objectives, strengths based analysis of family’s strengths and values in order to ascertain their motivation for change. Participants also need to establish criteria to recognise change.
Group content follows established Step Up model. Facilitator incorporates processes of family systems therapy and a narrative approach to guide the group through the course work (e.g. likening their progress to a ‘journey’).
With over four years of implementation, Uniting has adapted and developed some of their own tools and activities to supplement the work.
