Practitioners in the child and family welfare sector are at a higher risk for vicarious trauma, a cumulative process which can creep up, changing our attitudes, worldviews, and ultimately cutting short many promising careers.  Some participants who have completed this workshop discovered they were actually more affected by their clients’ trauma  than they had ever previously realised.

This workshop has been developed for the child and family welfare sector by Kaz Mitchell, a counsellor and psychotherapist who teaches in the Bachelor of Counselling at the Australian College of Applied Psychology, and has over 30 years’ experience helping clients find motivation for change, manage grief and loss, and overcome depression and anxiety.

The glowing feedback we get about Kaz’s  training reflects her deep foundations of research and rich experience helping others deal with difficult and challenging circumstances.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn advanced techniques to manage professional boundaries with clients
  • Spot the early signs of vicarious traumatisation
  • Differentiate vicarious trauma from other kinds of stress
  • Learn techniques for managing the impact of constant exposure to trauma, including ways to communicate your needs to your managers
  • Understand resistance, resilience and recovery
