In February 2012 the Centre’s Research and Social Policy Unit partnered with RCLDS to undertake the first ever census of the Victorian Residential Care Workforce. The Victorian Residential Care Census was undertaken to improve understanding of the residential care workforce, and achieved an incredible 100% response.The survey represented the first stage in an ongoing research project that will provide vital information about the skills, qualifications, demographics, retention and job satisfaction of the workforce.
The Census collected information from all Victorian Community Service Organisations in the eight DHS regions that deliver residential care services, and provided reliable snap-shot data of the entire workforce. In addition, a survey of residential care workers who attended the Resi ROCKS forum provided further workforce profiling. Results have identified the current strengths of the workforce and challenges for the future. The Census is proposed to be undertaken biennially to provide longitudinal workforce data. The results will support sector development and identify opportunities for the future workforce strategy to improve outcomes for children. Switch to Social Work – The Journey Begins!
Since the launch of the Switch to Social Work Program last year, we’ve seen remarkable progress! 67 participants were informed about their successful enrolment, indicating the beginning of their program
