Remembering the thousands of Australian children who experience family violence

This Child Protection Week we must all pause for a moment to remember Jack and Jennifer Edwards who were killed by their father in their home, which should have been their safe place.

We remember the thousands of other Australian children who experience family violence. We know that for nearly half of all children who have been admitted to hospital for assault, the injury was inflicted by a parent. We also know that most violence in the home is perpetrated against mothers and their children.

Child Protection week serves as a reminder of the need to hold perpetrators of the violence to account and to protect children and their mothers. Every child has a right to feel and be safe in their own home.
