Psychological First Aid (RCLDS)

Psychological First-aid is a training program that equips you to provide appropriate support to those in need after a traumatic event.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to respond to someone experiencing trauma

  • How to communicate and listen

  • How to help calm and support someone in the face of disaster

  • How to link to further professional help when needed
  • How to help the survivors feel less overwhelmed and able to cope

  • How to help reduce the initial distress

  • How to encourage short and long term adaptive functioning

  • How to take care of yourself

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding crises and trauma
  • Knowing when to do, who should do and how to do Psychological First Aid
  • How to help and work in a trauma informed way– giving support that doesn’t intrude
  • What supports look like in the aftermath of a crisis
  • Helping people to connect to information, services and social supports
  • Caring for yourself and others
