This workshop will be delivered on:

Tuesday 14th September and Wednesday 15th September (online)

10:00am – 1.00 pm

Both sessions must be attended to complete the workshop.

Training Topic

This workshop provides an evidence-based approach to working with adolescent family violence.    It utilises current global research and practice to equip practitioners with knowledge and understanding of adolescent family violence.

The workshop has a key focus on articulating the importance of a collaborative, developmental and trauma informed approach to enhance the safety of all family members and promote respectful family relationships.

It articulates a model of practice to engage and work with young people who use violence, with a parent and whole of family.  It explores the similarities and differences from working with adult perpetrators of family violence.  It highlights the benefits of a family systems approach in order to address and heal the parent/child bond and attachment and relational trauma.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the determinants of adolescent family violence, particularly the relationship between the experience of trauma and the use of violence;
  • Feel confident to engage and work with young people who use violence in the home in relation to their use of violence;
  • Feel confident and competent to work with non offending parents/carers about adolescent family violence interventions;
  • Have a clear practice framework about how best to proceed in working with adolescent family violence.
