Engaging and Talking with Young People who Experience Trauma (RCLDS)

Course Overview

This workshop is designed for residential care workers to understand and learn how best to respond to young people through a developmental, trauma informed and intersectional lens.

It covers the impacts of trauma on the developing brain how shame manifests and impacts engagement and communication and how worker self-reflection is important before we engage with young people.

This workshop provides opportunities for residential care workers to practise engagement with young people and refine their existing practice.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, you will :

  • Understand attachment and the relationship between attachment & trauma\
  • Understand adolescent’s safety, stability & development (BICPM)
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and practise trauma informed engagement with young people
  • Understand the role of self-reflection in practice
