Coverage of Hayley inquest continues in Thursday media update

Today’s media update again focuses exclusively on the findings of the Coroner regarding the death of Hayley, a toddler known to child protection who died of injuries that were inflicted at her home in July 2009. The Coroner has made six recommendations for change to help prevent deaths in similar circumstances in the future.

New inquiry call, child protection and occasional care in media

Today’s media update focuses on a call for a new Victorian inquiry following allegations of a cover-up regarding a report on abuse prepared for the Catholic Church. Also featuring are the NSW Ombudsman’s findings on child protection, and the funding challenges of the Take a Break occasional childcare program.

Have your say on after-hours child protection protocol

The Department of Human Services has invited the Centre to gather sector feedback on the protocol for out-of-home care providers contacting the After Hours Child Protection Emergency Service (AHCPES).

Development of the interim protocol began in 2007, and the current consultation will help to consolidate the protocol based on sector experience since then.

The consultation will be open from Monday 1 August until close of business on Friday 26 August.
